This guide takes you through the first steps of setting up your Prestige and getting yourself online with your SDSL connection. For this guide we will assume you are connecting your Prestige to one PC. Those connecting it over a network will need to slightly adjust this guide although the basics remain the same throughout.
Installation
Once the Prestige has been unpacked, connect the supplied cables up as follows:
- Blue Ethernet CAT5 cable goes from the LAN1 socket on back of Prestige to either your PC or hub/switch, depending on how you plan to use the Prestige on your network.
- You will have 2 possible cables for connecting your Prestige to the SDSL wall socket, dependant on the type of termination which will be a BT Jack, or RJ45/RJ11. Select the appropriate cable, and connect it to the SDSL wall socket, to the DSL socket on the back of the Prestige.
Turn the power switch on and the lights on the front of the Prestige should light. The LAN1 light should be on, indicating that a connection is detected between the PC and the Prestige. LAN2 – LAN4 will also light if you have a device connected to them too. The DSL light should flash, then go steady once the SDSL has been synchronised, and PPP/ACT will blink to indicate traffic.
Setting up your PC
The Prestige has an in-built DHCP server which is enabled by default, meaning all you need to do on your PC is set it to automatically be assigned an IP address, and the Prestige will assign you one and set the default gateway itself. This can be selected by going into the network properties of your PC and adjusting the TCP / IP configuration of your network card.
Communicating with Prestige
Once your computer has been assigned an IP address, you can then communicate with the Prestige by opening up a web browser (Internet Explorer) and typing in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
After a short time a window will appear asking you to enter a username and password . The username is admin and the password 1234, if you then click OK; it will take you to the main configuration screen, as below:

You can setup a password straight away by clicking on the Password option under Advanced Setup.
If you need to re-configure which IP address the Prestige is located on, click on LAN under Advanced Setup and adjust the settings to suit.
Setting up the SDSL
To set the SDSL up, click Wizard Setup from the above screen. Then select Service Type Client, Rate Adaption Enable, Standard Mode ETSI (ANNEX_B). The settings should look like the screen below:

Click Next and fill out the following options as follows; Mode: Routing, Encapsulation: PPPoA, Multiplex: VC, VPI: 0, VCI: 38 and then click Next.
On the screen you should now input your username and password in the appropriate fields, select Obtain an IP Address Automatically and Nailed Up Connection similar to the screen below.

You will then be presented with an overview screen of your selections, if everything is correct, click Save Settings.
Monitoring / Diagnosis
You can monitor the connection on the Prestige at any time by clicking Maintenance and then System Status from the main menu; this details IP addresses, and other useful information regarding your connection as well as the ability to view the statistics.
Support
The CD provided with the Prestige contains a fully documented help system, all graphically presented in the same way as the main menu of the Prestige. Click on the section that you need help with and it’ll show a full explanation of it. FAQ’s and a vast amount of information is also available from ZyXEL themselves at http://www.zyxel.co.uk
